Annual Salary :  
PL 1: $ 38, 903.02
PL 2: $ 41, 078.44
PL 3: $ 43, 081.48

Paid and Unpaid Leaves:
Housestaff physicians are entitled to the following paid leaves per academic year:  28 vacation days, 12 sick days, 12 holidays, 7 conference days and 3 days bereavement.  In addition, the Housestaff physician may be granted maternity or paternity leave to cover periods of pregnancy, newborn child care and/or newly adopted child care using their accumulated leave time (sick, vacation and holiday) and up to six months without pay.  Other leaves of absence without pay may be granted, but shall be limited to one month for every full year of service, not to exceed one year.  As per the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, unpaid leaves may also be granted to an eligible employee for up to 12 weeks per year.  Since accessing leave time may compromise a Housestaff physician's ability to satisfy board requirements, how these requirements shall be made up should be clarified with the respective program director prior to initiation of the leave.  If there is a need for an extension of training in order to satisfy requirements, the Housestaff physician shall receive regular salary and benefits.

Professional Liability:
Professional liability is provided by indemnification al all personnel involved in direct patient care at all Cook County Health facilities in accordance with Cook County Amended Ordinance 86-0-45, 11/3/86.

Residence Requirements:
The Cook County Board of Commissioners has adopted a residency requirement which mandates that all new employees must live in Cook County and provide documentation of such within six months of starting employment.

Benefits:
Cook County provides a comprehensive benefits package for Housestaff physicians and their dependents.  The benefits package includes health insurance, dental coverage, vision plan, disability and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, pension plan and flexible spending accounts.  In addition, the County provides the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers assistance with personal problems requiring professional help.

Other Benefits:
Housestaff physicians are provided with three meals and a midnight snack per day, seven days a week.  Lab coats are provided and are laundered free of charge.  Four sets of scrubs are also provided on an annual basis.  Twenty-four hour parking access is provided at a competitive rate, currently $35 per month.  An educational allowance, currently $950 per year, is available for reimbursement of expenses for conferences, seminars, review courses or books.  Also, Departmental Policies and Procedures have been revised to accommodate the 80 hour week schedule and other duty hours regulations as mandated by ACGME.

Life Support courses: 
CPR, PALS, NALS, and ACLS courses provided to all house officers without fee. 

Library: 
Duplicating, computers, and Internet connections are available free of charge in most clinical areas 24 hours a day.  Residents have 24 hour access to library resources throughout the hospital, including on-line journal search engines with full-length articles free of charge. The County Academic Center is available during set hours, seven days a week.
